Using SkyDrive to host video files for SL2VideoPlayer

SkyDrive makes a very nice hosting platform for video. And of course it's free! Just sign-in and upload your WMV file or playlist.

In case anybody else finds this useful or interesting, I recently wrote a blog post demonstrating how to use SkyDrive to "stream" video files to the SL2VideoPlayer. I created an unofficial API for SkyDrive ("SkyScraper") for exactly this purpose.

SkyDrive serves the video extremely fast! A progressive download from SkyDrive feels as good as streaming. Try it! You'll love it.

I'm going to use this as a handy alternative to Silverlight Streaming (Beta) during the transitional period while this service is phased-out and replaced by something similar on Azure. A number of people have used my strategy to stream MP3 audio to various clients, but it's really perfect for WMV files for SL2VideoPlayer.

SkyDrive may not be intended for this type of use, so this is purely for academic interest.

Enjoy!
