Commented Issue: Video player works locally but invisible on host [12848]

Following code works locally:

But will not run on test page at hosted site (http://mdoshea.ie/showvideo.aspx)

I've experimented with source location for VideoPlayer.xap and have copy in root as well as ClientBin folder. I've also tried value="ClientBin\VideoPlayer.xap" and "\ClientBin\VideoPlayer.xap".

Again these values work locally but not on online in host site.

Host (webhotel aka inforce) confirms they have Silverlight vers. 3, I have vers. 4 locally. However min runtime vers is 2.0.31005.0, so presumably this is not problem.

I get a blank screen area online where video should be like host can't find VideoPlayer.xap.

Are there any other files I need to upload to get player working? Or perhaps settings to be changed online?

Have spent some time trying to get working online so would appreciate any help.

Had same issue. Make sure the Mime type is set on the server for silverlight templates.

Mime Type settings:
The extension is ".xap" and mime type is "application/x-silverlight-app"

I'll even go one furthur... it seems that even one player is having a hard time playing a "real time" WMV stream (i.e., not buffered). Seems like this all may be related?

Hi Tim and friends,

Just ran into this same thing with a new web page with two SL players on the same page, both streaming live (separate/different) WMV feeds.

Confused the heck out of me since we tested extensively against this sort of issue. Then it hit me; while testing we only used buffered video streams for both players. In this instance we're running both "real time" without any buffering, since both videos need to sync up as close as possible in our case.

As an FYI, we're using the Unreal Media Server (www.umediaserver.net) to send the streams to our web page with the two SL players.

This issue has my vote!

I am very happy to use your video player - it works well and and I like the design. Please spare some time - I don't think it would take long - so that player can be used as a neat audio mp3 player as well.

As stands controls vanish and only show in full screen mode which is not appropriate for an audio player - I just want fixed controls displayed and full screen mode switched off.

I am trying to play an MP3 using this player, no video just audio of course beings that its a simple MP3. It does play but the weird thing is that its not giving me a UI (stop/seek, etc) unless i go to full screen, any ideas?

This is a nice video player and would suit me fine as well a audio player - if only it would show the controls and forget full screen mode - I'll add another issue and maybe this might remind Tim to fix this bug.

This is interesting. We often use multiple instances of SL2VideoPlayer on a web page with no problems, but we stream the media from Windows Media Services or IIS. I've even had a hundred players on the same page and they all work perfectly and can even all play at once! It's impressive, especially if you've tried this with Flash where you have performance issues and cross-contamination issues (e.g. muting one player can mute all the others).

If i play a different video with another size the controls are not show.
Only if i switch to fullscreen mode the controls are shown.
Sometimes it happens that if i switch back from fullscreen the controls will be shown but i think thats totaly random if that happens or not .....

maybe its a Silverlight 3 problem....

My implementation automatically replaces WMVs embedded in content in my CMS solution with the SL2Player. Some of these videos have heights set on the WMV object that are larger than the video. WM simply letterboxes this. The SL2Player however forces everything to the top and leave a huge black bar at the bottom. I have changed the XAML everyway I can think of but I can't seem to get the video and controls to center so that I get a letterbox effect. Any help is appreciated.

That is what being done currently. I just think it would be more attractive to split the extra room between the top and bottom rather than having it all on the bottom.

You need to set the width/height on the player itself...no auto letterboxing occurs on the player controls.

I have a video that's more than 5 min long and when I move the slider to the end, it always jumps back to a few seconds before it.

I'm also having this issue with MediaElement. I can set Position anywhere in the clip (video is an hour long) except to the last ~30 seconds, and cannot set it to the end. IE:

ME1.Position = ME1.NaturalDuration.TimeSpan;

Will set the video 36 seconds from the end. I can back up "second by second" and move forward "second by second" any any other point, but if I try to set a value past 36 seconds from the end it backs up to that point. The video will play fine to the end, and if I let it play to the end and then try to change position the problem still exists. Using Progressive download of a wmv.

OK, I've attached the code from VideoPlayerThemed.VideoPlayer mediaPlayer_MediaOpened event handler. This may need to go futher up the food chain.

Other than that, how do I go about submitting a patch?
