multiple instances of player on one page?

May 28, 2009 at 4:46 PM

hey all

first just wanted to say that the player is great

the video looks clean and the ui does so much

so now because i like it so much

id like to put multiple vids on one page

ive got the player in a .ascx control and just stamp out the control on the page depending on the number of vids in the db

the first instance of the player comes up totally fine

the rest of them are just a black frame

has anyone made multiple instances work?

If you look at the network traffic do you see the videos being loaded?  How many are you adding?  The player is optimized for one view really...we haven't done much testing with multiple on a single page.  It should work, but there will also be likely network performance issues because your page will be downloading multiple videos at one time.  Browser network limitations usually only allow up to 2 requests simultaneously to the same server at one time.  This could be your issue.

hey tim

thanks for the quick reply

i realise that download requests are limited to 2

but it only ever does one even after the 1st download is finished

and to add insult to injury

ive just been experimenting with another player which isnt quite as pretty as this one

and it does the multi-player just fine

is there a quick solution?

or can i get  a confirmation on this ?

(if i can i will put in a feature request)

Do you have a sample page we can look at?  and what other player is working fine so we can investigate differences?

Got it.  It does have to do with the progressive download of the videos.  Our loading sequence is likely blocking showing any UI until the video is loaded (or enough to start playing).  I'll have to take a look at it.
